JD Wetherspoon 🍔 Spoons Brie and Bacon Burger Review | Blogmas 2024

This year, Spoons have a great Christmas range. Some of the things on their menu are festive burgers. I recently went to Spoons with my friend Oli, and tried one. This is my honest review of the Spoons brie and bacon burger.

The Good

The first thing to note is how generous the bacon and brie were. Part of me was expecting a paltry amount of both, but this was undeniably a brie and bacon burger. The beef patties were cooked well, and the bun was pretty good too.

There were two miniature pigs in blankets on the top of the burger, stabbed in with a skewer. I’m pretty sure they were deep fried, so they were very indulgent despite being small. But if you can’t indulge at Christmas, eh?

It was served with a decent portion of chips too, which was welcome.

The Bad

There are two main downsides to this burger, in my opinion.

Firstly, the burger was quite greasy. With two beef patties, a decent amount of bacon, and a generous amount of brie, there was a lot of fat coming off of this burger. Not that it’s necessarily a bad thing, some people like a greasy burger, but I didn’t expect there to be quite so much and it surprised me a little.

The other downside is the salad. The burger felt well composed, but at the bottom there was raw red onion under lettuce. I love salad in a burger, but this felt like an afterthought and was not particularly good. Half of the raw onion ended up falling out, and it spent the rest of the meal sitting sadly on the side of my plate.

The Overall

The Spoons Brie and Bacon Burger is pretty good, but nothing to write home about. I’m a fan of a blue cheese and bacon burger anyway, so this is just a little festive tweak on that tried and tested (and hugely controversial) classic. All in all, if you’re in the mood for a Christmassy burger, you could do far worse, but if you’re unsure, this might be one to skip.
